Primary Interschool Chess Day

  • Dates: 11 Jun, 2014

On Tuesday 3rd June, Kingsway Christian College hosted an interschool Chess Tournament. Many schools from around the metropolitan region attended, bringing with them between four and fifteen students to take part in the competition.
The purpose of the day was to provide the students with a fun day of chess, whilst at the same time providing a competitive edge with prizes being offered to the five best performers at the end of the day.
The schools that attended were; Carmel School, Christ Church Grammar, Guildford Grammar School, John Wollaston Anglican Community School, Penrhos College, Perth College, St Stephens Carramar, Swan Christian College, Trinity College, Wesley College and of course our own College. There were one hundred students who took part in the competition on the day, fifteen of them from Kingsway.
Each student played ten games and had the opportunity to meet many students from other schools during the course of the day’s play. Lunch time also provided students (and staff) from the different schools, with a good opportunity to mingle and get to know each other better.
Overall, the IPSHA Chess Day was a most enjoyable time of networking with other schools, whilst also being a day of challenging chess competition. The day was a great success and we look forward to hosting it again next year.
